Delivered by Scott Wilson

Scripture: Hebrews 8:1-13

We all have to make choices in our lives.

Good/ better/ best.

Personal taste determines our good/ better/ best.

Seder Meal, Passover/ Items, The Old Covenant:

  • Sacred plate
    • roasted egg
    • lamb shank
    • stuffing
    • grap juice
    • horse raddish
    • non bitter herbs
    • parsley
  • Water
  • Bread
  • The Elijah Cup
  • The Holder
    • Three compartments
    • middle - important to us

The officiant takes and hides, kids find.

Ceremony reminds them of from where they came .

Communion, The New Covenant

  • The bread - Christ's body.
  • The cup - Christ's blood.

Chapter 1-7: The Superiority of Christ

  • 1:1-2:18 - Christ's superiority to the prophets and the angels (John 1:1).
  • Chapter 3 - superior to Moses (John 9:28-29).
  • Chapter 4-7 - Superior to the Aarionic Priesthood.

Be careful of the obsolete ways of coming to Christ.

Covenant of Grace (new) versus the Covenant of Laws (old).

The old covenant was unable to save. Man is unable to keep the old covenant. The old covenant requires repetative sacrifice. The old covenant is only a shadow of the good things.

The new covenant does not depend on me.

How many of us just go through the motions of taking communion?

1st Peter 2:24

Jewish Christians were tempted to "slide back" to the old covenant.

Matthew 19:16-22

What is the cost to us? Committment. Embracing Christ.

Perhaps it is accepting the word of man over the word of God.

Acts 17:10

Check the scriptures to see if what man says is true.

"We have never done it this way before".

"This is what we always do".

Go to the scriptures!

The Apostle Paul says to examine yourself before coming to the table with Christ.

What do I need to give up or surrender to live by grace?
